How do I make it sound complicated? I'm not computer illiterate by any means. Hell, I'm a technician fercryinoutloud! No my problems were allways about my slow ass computer and waiting days to DL a show only to find out it either wouldn't convert or was a lame sounding show. I need to upgrade my computer yet because I'm a tech I'm too cheap to shell out the $ when I get get a hand me down from work that's good enough for next to nothing. One things for sure is I'm praying for an external hardrive for xmas. I'm constantly zipping and moving them to disc to free up my meager HD space.

do most bit torrent shows take hours and hours and hours to download?? just curious since i hate leaving my pc on overnight. when cosmic mentioned the other day that 18.5 was not a bad speed - that makes me think the downloads are epic in length.

hey dire,i think it depends on the swarm of people downloading.i downloaded charlie miller new 11-14-73 at shn/flac at an average rate of 250/kb's and 10-27-79 at bt.etree at around 220/kb's,so the more people on it the better,i think...i'm just a analog man in a digital world.

hey dire, I've DL'd shows in as little as an hour, with utorrent1.6 you can turn off your PC and it will resume automatically when you boot up. In anycase, just let me know what torrents you may like at shnflac.net or bt.etree.org and if it's active, I'll DL it and send you it.
I have all the Oprah's.
There's a great recent post that explains torrents quite well...Arbuthnot's, jest up this thread

all is well! at least it's cooled to 70-80 degree daze here.
I just found the one and only JGB show i went to, it's the 11/11/94 at shnflac.net, I groveled and got a kind soul to re-seed it. (within the hour i asked!)
Though the show was only average, I've sought it out for a few years. It's a good day!

yeah, they take FOREVER. The plus side for me is I don't have to DL one track at a time like I do with SHN files ( don't have the SW to do the whole show at once ) , the downside to me is I have to jump on what has the most activity or it will take forever or not be possible at all. Wish I had gotten my act together when you could still DL sbds. Oh well, there's still plenty of great stuff to be had.

yeah, other than Tiger's good experinces, i kinda thought most take quite some time. hope when i jump into the whole bit torrent thing, my luck matches Tiger's.

You know there is a standing offer for me to send you sbds you didn't get before the LMA boards went down. I certainly dont have everything, but if there are any shows in particular or years - let me know and i will see if i have them. my shows are your shows man.

(that goes for the other kind souls ive met out here like McGlone, Cosmic, Lehigh, JodyC, highflow, Arbuthnot - and anyone else i may have failed to mention.)

love to listen to bands im not too familiar with - highflow sent me a sting cheese disc that i have been diggin - but i am so backed up with stuff i haven't listened to that all you kind folk have sent me - im almost overwhelmed at the moment. those kimock discs you sent me a month or so ago are still in my top 5 rotation list - my girl loves kimock so that makes it easier. arbuthnot sent me a Jane's disc that i love, but my girl and my cat absolutely hate it - lol. my cat ran upstairs and wound't come down until the disc was over. way too freakin funny :) i don't think Spooky likes Perry too much. cat has no taste damnit!

at this point - don't worry too much about reciprocation if there is something i may be able to help you out with. like i said - i am overwhelmed. most of my listening is usually in my truck - and since i cant drive yet, listening to the new stuff has been slow on this end. I love sharing what i have, so let me know - you guys are awesome and i just love to keep this thing going. email me (if you still have it) - or let me know via the LMA, if there is any way i can share.

(commercial live releases count too - whether Dead or JGB - have lots of them and very willing to copy for a friend)

If you are doing one track at a time for shn files (like on gdlive I'm guessing?)download mozilla/ firefox (free and fast) as an alternate browser. Then add Down Them All to it (also fast and free). Then using mozilla as a browser, open gdlive, pick a show and open it. Drag/right click over the files to highlight them, then right click again and Down Them All should appear as an option. Click on it and the look of the highlighted files will change, and click all the shn files and hit start. It will Down(load)Them All, no single track dl needed.

My question - how do I get everything I want the instant I want it? j/k. Man how far we've come though huh? When I was trading TAPES ( all of which I still have and even busted out last summer ) I got started from a kind few souls who were VERY generous and let me borrow them to record. After that it often got harder and harder to get good quality stuff. Total gamble you had to wait weeks for. On one amazing note: I had received lots of crappy sounding tapes that someone somehow thought were good BUT I never ever once ever got burned. Amazing if you think about it. I remember people not in the know questioning why I would trust strangers. And I would say - well I've never gotten burned so why wouldn't I. The opposite is more the truth - strangers stopping strangers to GIVE them stuff. And the community while growing smaller keeps growing larger in it's kindness.

Funny you mention the tape thing as there was just a brief article in Rolling Stone about a resurrgence of high quality tape manufacturers making some noise (ha) in the music industry again.

I guess that with all of tapes problems (stretch, bend, break) it still has recording qualities that are hard to beat. Oddly, the article says the only superior recording process is analog to vinyl! I guess cds are so cheap and hold the sound better (but apparently not necessarily better sound)that they are hard to beat for commercial recordings. I just downloaded an old dave mason show that a guy had on reel to reel off a WLIR radio broadcast that is sweet. Maybe this whole thing will go full cycle at some point.

On that note. I'm working on packages for you and McGlone today! No bad trading experiences to report here. I love LMA. If you have traded w/ me(you know who you are), thanks again. Most folks here think beyond their own NEEDS. Where else do you find people(strangers) like that?

Hi Dire - All kidding aside, I suspect my mailbox was pilfered. I was expecting packages from you and Arbuthnot and neither has arrived. I've been giving them a few more days, but no luck so far(today's mail has arrived already).

If I don't get them tomorrow, I'll let you know.

wow, that sucks! i'm pretty sure in talking with arbuthnot that he mailed his to you too. we were talking about the stuff you mailed us. (i did thank you i hope - if i didn't, im an ass and i apologize - musta thought i did since i talked with arbuth about it)

the little charlie stuff is cool man - i may check them out at chan's next april - heard that is a fun place to see a show and is actually closer to me than the other Mass sites.

i certainly hope the two packages make it to you. that blows if someone nabbed them on ya. i can always resend if necessary - im sure arbuthnot will do the same. of course, you may need to remind me what the hell i sent - lol - i think it was the 68-69 stuff, if my poor brain remembers correctly.

Hi Dire - Thanks for that. Yeah, there were some shady characters hanging around my street Saturday, maybe they swiped the disks. I hope they are Britney Spears fans and choke on the GD stuff. PUNKS!

Again, I'll let you know if I need a re-send, but let's give it a day or 2.

Okay, this is very disturbing! I was getting curious when i didn't hear from you. Do you have an alternate, more secure address i could send same to?? I b'lieve i sent out the package last Wed in the afternoon pickup where i work. So, i'm thinking it should have got there by now. Please e-mail if you don't get by tomorrow or day after. I even overstamped it just in case i was off on the rate. Dude, i'll be bummed if you don't get soon as your package (so cool of you!) arrived in fairly short order.

Hey Arbuthnot - Yeah, sorry I didn't let you know sooner. I work and live(duh!) here at this address. So, I am usually home when the mail arrives. There were 2 guys haging around in a truck on our street Saturday. However, we were here and left moment after the mailman made his drop for the day. The lady accross from us runs a catering biz, and often has employess waiting for her on our street, I assumed this was the case Saturday.

So either these thieves are very bold or the USPS is dragging it's feet.

I've been watching the mail like a hawk yesterday and today. I expected both packages Saturday, usually 3 days from post to box.

So, I'm holding on and hoping they'll arrive.

I really appreciate you guys caring. I've been bummed, but did't want to spread the misery prematurely.

We've received many, many packages here without incident, so I feel USPS is fine. I'm still hoping this is coincidence and that they'll roll in tomorrow.
